Courage
Keep the Shark in the Tank
Why a little challenge can keep us fresh, lively and growing.
Read the story
People in Japan love fresh fish, but the coastal waters had few fish left. Fishing boats had to travel farther out, and by the time they returned the catch was stale.
The companies tried freezers, and then crowded tanks. The fish arrived alive but sluggish, and buyers could still taste the difference.
Then, the story goes, someone placed a small shark in each tank. The shark ate a few fish, but the rest spent the whole journey alert and moving, and they arrived fresh.
Moral: Comfort can make us dull. A healthy challenge keeps us sharp, so welcome the shark that helps you grow.
A popular business parable. It is told as a lesson, not as documented history.
